Hi there, welcome to my world of flavourful, colourful, low-fat, low-carb food!

My name is Rupsha, and I decided to start sharing some of my recipes with the world, and especially those who contend with having a restricted diet inflicted upon them…

The name: I love all members of the Brassicaceae family, i.e., the cabbage family! While you will see various cabbage recipes, I will also share recipes containing no cabbage; but everything you will see is low in saturated fat and low in refined/processed carbohydrates (including sugars). Huzzah!

The reason: I got diagnosed with a very rare vascular autoimmune disease in 2008.  The disease is a form of large vessel granulomatous vasculitis and causes narrowing of all the major arteries and their branches. This basically means that my immune system attacks my blood vessels and blocks them up − not good news for my dear old organs!

This changed my life pretty drastically, and especially the way that I ate. Saturated fats and refined carbohydrates became immediate no-go zones, and many of my favourite foods had to be dropped from my daily menu, never to return. Instead of being bitter about it, I started rethinking about the way I cook, experimenting with alternative ingredients and discovering a whole new universe of dishes that gave me the same pleasure (and sometimes more!) as the food I was used to eating before. And most importantly, this food is keeping me healthy and the effects of my disease to a minimum.

Talking about experimenting, in my professional life I am a medical research scientist (an immunologist), and after work, the kitchen is my lab!
